With the holidays and the new semester upon us, there’s no doubt it’s about to start
getting busy. From trying to enjoy the festivities to preparing for the Spring semester,
it’s most definitely not an idle season. Howard College invites you to get a head
start and join us on November 21st for the “Hall-iday” Luminaria, our annual Christmas
celebration.
Let our beautiful lanterns light up your holiday spirit and come celebrate the season
with our free “Hall-iday” Luminaria in the Hall Center for the Arts. From 5:30 to
7:30 PM, there will be pictures with Santa, letters to Santa, and cocoa & cookies.
Most excitingly, our talented students in the theater department will be putting on
a showing of A Christmas Carol at 6:30 PM.
Goliad Elementary School is bringing 300 students to the college to be treated to
an early showing of the play before it is open to the public. Dan Evers, Division
Chair of Fine Arts, Associate Professor Theatre and Drama, said he recognized a need
in the community for kids to gain exposure to the fine arts. In our rural area, children’s
theater is not easily accessible. Not only does the play benefit the kids, but it
also provides invaluable drama experience for the actors. Elizabeth Warren, a student
who plays the Ghost of Christmas Present, stated that acting lets her learn characteristics
about herself that she wouldn’t have otherwise recognized.
The play is free to the public, but you can make reservations by calling Cynthia Weeks
at (432) 264-5161.
